Mission News
As we approach the season of winter, we can look back on some of the events of summer.
Essex Christian Camps
Essex Christian Camps report that though numbers were not as high as they would have liked, those present had a great time. The senior camp talks were based on Ephesians 1 & 2 and were mainly aimed at helping the youngsters to understand God’s amazing grace and exploring their identity in Christ.
The junior teaching related to world issues and the place of Christians in it and how they should cope with the “upside down” teaching of the world.
Back2School Ministries
From their newsletter it is obvious that Chris and Sue Govus had a really blessed and wonderful time in the USA, an extremely full programme with the Navajo people, none of which would have been possible without much planning and hard work preceded by months of prayer. The amazing holiday afterwards must have been very necessary and most welcome.
We are looking forward to working with Sue and Chris next year at our own Holiday Club. Please start to pray now for the children who will come.
ECM (European Christian Mission)
Just a few facts on the origin of the European Christian Mission. Ganz Raud came to the UK in 1904, the first of many visits in the process of founding the work of the Mission.
On his travels throughout the UK he was invited to speak at meetings and conventions and he took every opportunity to share with his listeners the need of the continent. During this period Ganz’s vision for his life’s work became clear. In 1915 Raud visited the USA where he spent his time praying for contacts who would share his vision. As time passed his prayers were answered. In 1920 an office was rented in New York, moving to larger premises in Brooklyn in 1922, in that year a second office was opened in Toronto. When World War One ended in 1918 relief ministry to Christians in Europe was a priority, food and clothing were distributed and a response made to the cry for Bibles, an appeal coming from Russia. By 1923 there were 55 missionaries in Europe, working in ten countries, this figure increased to 81 by 1927, with 243 volunteers, 132 meeting halls, over 300 regular gatherings, Bible study courses in four languages and thousands being converted.
Since the end of the Second World War Europe had become a fertile mission field. Entry into France was made in 1936 but the outbreak of WW2 meant that ECM personnel had to leave the country. However in the years after the war opportunities were seized to re-enter France, new workers were appointed and by 1950 the suburbs of Paris were the centre of a vibrant ECM ministry. Since then the work has grown across Europe.
From northern Sweden to the beaches of the Algarve; Albania to Spain; from Ireland to the newest European nation Kosovo; from Poland to Portugal; in the cities, towns and rural areas ECM members are working.
Church planting, education, addiction, rehabilitation, migrants, leadership training, evangelism, discipling, counselling. All taking place through ECM in Europe. The light of Christ still shines in Europe.
A great encouragement for us to continue to support them in prayer and giving whenever we can!
Please remember to consider all our missions in your prayers as often as you are able. We may not know how much difference we make but we can be sure that our prayers are heard and answered.
1 Chronicles Ch5 v20b
“He answered their prayers because they trusted in Him. “
