Mission Involvement 2009
Welcome to the first Mission Report of 2010, by the time you get to read it hopefully we will be enjoying some lovely spring weather!
Worldwide issues continue to be a cause of great concern, the most recent being the awful earthquake disaster in Haiti, unbelievable heart-rending scenes of devastation and unbearable suffering leaving thousands of people desperate for help.
The ongoing recession is still causing tremendous hardship to many families across Britain and elsewhere, we are all being affected in some way. As we watch TV News bulletins and read the newspapers we could easily become despondent, but II Corinthians 4:8 says: “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed but not in despair; persecuted but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed”. So we can be confident that our God is in full control of this troubled world.
All of the missions must be feeling the effects of recession, as demands on their resources increase and support for them has been massively reduced, making our continued support vital. Our friend Jean Louis Kassis reports that some London City Mission staff have sadly been made redundant and that every missionary now needs to raise a portion of their own finances in order to continue ministry, additional pressures on people who are serving the Lord in already difficult circumstances.
TEAR Fund are holding a Global Poverty Prayer week from 1st to 7th March 2010 and request that we pray with them for their involvement in the relief of world poverty, natural disasters and disease. Operating in more than 40 countries worldwide TEAR Fund works to transform lives through the Lord Jesus Christ, they need our prayer support.
Youth is always a priority for our prayers and we continue to remember Sue and Chris Govus in their Back 2 School Ministries, always a very busy schedule for them.
This year we are pleased to include C.Y.O. and their work in local schools in our list of missions to receive a regular monetary gift, as well as our support in prayer. Their work is so important.
The Sun Seekers group are now in communication with Lemuel and Rachel Feliciano (in place of Honor Perfect) who work for ECM in Pontevedra, Northern Spain. They are involved in youth work there and we hope to hear much more about them in the future. In return, it seems that Lemeul and Rachel are very keen to learn more about our Church and Sun Seekers.
All of our missions will be very involved in their efforts to bring practical relief to people worldwide in the forms of food, clothing, medical care, comfort and shelter during these trying times, sharing the love of the Lord Jesus Christ and the good news of the Gospel at the same time.
May we all remain steadfast and loyal in our practical and prayerful support of them all.
“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him”.II Corinthians 2:14
