“For what I received I passed onto you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”

Humility: True Greatness

By C J Mahaney

Very rarely do I read a book that has as much of an impact on my life as this one did. This book is one that every Christian should read at some point in their walk with God. The book is written by an American pastor who does not profess to be humble but asks the reader to walk with him on this journey towards it. In it you will find scripture of humility expounded and daily application methods given. It will challenge every aspect of pride within and encourage you to achieve what true greatness really is. The book is easy to read and thoroughly addictive, lifting your spirit more and more each page. For those looking for a book that will encourage you, challenge you yet not confuse you, this is the one.

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

The Daily Walk

“Walk thru the Bible”

‘The Daily Walk’ from Walk thru the Bible is a great daily study Bible. The scriptures are broken up into daily ‘chunks’ which are quick and easy to read. Each day starts off with a thought for the day, some insight into the passages being read and other information to focus your mind on what you are about to read. It is a New Living Translation which is easy to read on a regular basis. This is a great tool for daily Bible study and provides an easy yet effective way of reading the whole Bible in a year

We have several copies of this in the vestry should anyone wish to read one.

Passion of Jesus Christ

By John Piper

For many the crucifixion of Christ is a subject that is only dealt with at Easter and during communion. However in this book, American pastor and theologian John Piper gives 50 reasons why Jesus had to die, some well known and others not. The book is ideally suited for a 'Chapter A Day' approach and is written in such a way that makes the most complicated of doctrines easy to understand! Piper’s style of writing is captivating and his love of scripture evident. This is a great book for all ages and deserves a place on every Christian’s bookshelf!

3:16 The Numbers of Hope

Max Lucado

This book by Max Lucado focuses on one of the most famous Bible verses of all time.  John 3:16 – ‘for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.’ Max breaks this verse down and explains the significance of each word in his usual easy reading way. The book expounds the great truths that this verse holds and tells of its relevance today. The book finishes with a 40 day devotional that focuses on the truths of the Christian faith and what they can mean to you. This is an easy book to read that is encouraging, challenging and thought provoking. Suitable for both Christians and non-Christians alike.

Ten

J.John

J. John has written a book that looks at the 10 commandments from a 21st century perspective. For those who believe that the Ten Commandments were for years ago and have no relevance for us today, this is a book to change their mind. In a very challenging yet encouraging book, J. John tells of how import-ant these commandments are in our daily walk with God and gives us examples of how we can break them without even knowing it. This is a book that is easy to read, enjoyable yet it challenges you to the very core.

Money, Possessions & Eternity

This book by Randy Alcorn is without a doubt one of the most extensive expositions of biblical standards for our use of money. Randy writes in a simple, yet authoritative style, constantly backing up his views with scripture and often uses stories to explain his point. He deals with issues such as tithing, inheritance and even gives suggestions as to how parents can teach their children to use money in a way that is God honouring. It will leave you with a clear understanding of what God expects and helps us to grow into the good stewards he wants us to be.

Taming the Tiger

Taming the Tiger tells the amazing true story of Tony Anthony, a Kung Fu world champion caught in a downward spiral, only to be freed by the Grace of God. The book is an awe-inspiring tale of how God can change a man from a killer into a soul winner. Tony’s story is a story that will encourage and challenge Christians and Non-Christians alike.

There is a children’s version available called Cry of the tiger, this is the same story minus the scary parts!

‘Left Behind’ and ‘Left Behind Kids’

Eschatology, the study of end times, is something that many Christians have a great interest in but struggle to understand. However, one of the most popular Christian books in recent years, ‘Left Behind’, has proved a great starting point. It tells the story of a number of people as their world is turned upside down by the rapture of the church. With millions of people across the globe just disappearing ‘in the twinkling of an eye’ (1 Corinthians 15:52), they set about trying to find the cause. The book – Whilst it is fictional it gives the reader an insight as to the meaning of end time scripture and a glimpse as to what the tribulation might be like. It is the first in a series of books that takes readers right through the tribulation.

If you would like to read this then please speak to Eric or Judy as they have the whole series and would be willing to lend them to those who wish to read. They are also readily available in most Christian bookshops.

There is also a series of the same books but written from the perspective of children. The first 11 books of the ‘Left Behind Kids’ series is in the church lobby for those who wish to read it.

The Gospel According to Jesus

The Evangelical movement has grown very big over the last 50 years, but it seems to be losing its focus. The gospel presented in many churches today is far from what Jesus taught and what is written in scripture. John MacArthur examines what True Gospel actually is and why the church has wandered so far away from it.

This book is available on www.gty.org.uk and Adam has a copy should anybody wish to read it.

Noah’s Ark Black & White Baby Development Book

"As a new Dad I wanted to do everything I could for my Son. Our midwife mentioned how babies like black and white images. I searched the world wide web for black and white baby development books and, while I found some very good publications, I could not find any with a Christian theme. So I decided the answer was to create my own and to also make them available for anyone else who was also looking".
