Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD?"

The morning of Saturday, 12 March 2005, dawned a bright and cloudless sky and the various cars made their way to Mulberry House in High Ongar to participate in the Church Away Day.  Everyone arrived safe and sound and the day got off to a good start in the pleasant surroundings of the Mulberry Room, whilst the children soon immersed themselves in their activities in the Cedar Room under the watchful eye of Naomi, together with her helpers.

After introductions we spent time in worship and singing with our good friend Kevin Smee at the keyboard.  This was followed by a break for coffee and a chat.  We then re-assembled and listened to Victor Jack, our guest speaker from near Bury St Edmunds, his subject being “Breaking the sound barrier”.  He related to us how he had been brought-up with his six brothers in a good Christian home and how difficult he had found it to witness to his own Christian faith once he had left home and “gone into the world” so to speak.  He spoke of various methods of reaching people for the Lord, but was of the opinion that personal evangelism probably came highest on the list.  He pointed out that there were many unnamed, anonymous, ordinary people just like all of us, who are willing to “talk about Jesus” to those with whom they come into contact day by day.  He sought to challenge us that the fire within our hearts needs to be released and that we need to seek boldness from the Holy Spirit to flood our souls and set us free.  He mentioned that our freedom may be getting scarce and that we need to be spontaneous and effective when opportunities arise to share Jesus with others.  Indeed we all need to become  “Contagious Christians”.

After having a very enjoyable lunch in the Conservatory, together with the children, we then had a short while to relax and look around the very pleasant garden before going into groups, each with a leader from the Pastoral Team, to discuss “Caring for each other” and “Caring in our Community”.

The various points were then brought together and recorded and ideally will be brought into practice in the coming weeks and months in the life of the Fellowship.

The day ended with a time of fun and relaxation along with the children, who were eager to show us the various activities that had kept them occupied during the day.  After another welcome cup of tea we all wended our way back to our various homes after a very stimulating and enjoyable day of fellowship together.
